8.24.05 - SCOTT'S NEW RECORDING STUDIO: FRY PHARMACY
Ramblers string-bass player Scott McEwen is pleased to announce that he has acquired a new building for his Nashville recording studio. The building once housed The Fry Pharmacy, which closed many years ago; Scott will adopt the name of the building's previous tenant as the name for his recording operation. So please welcome the new Fry Pharmacy, whose doors will open soon. Scott says that much of the building's amazing 1930's-style interior will remain intact once the studio is up and running. The Fry Pharmacy web site is under construction; you can e-mail Scott at McEwen_Scott@hotmail.com if you'd like to talk about recording or want to check out the space.

8.15.05 SPECIAL THANKS TO...
Negash Motors of Cambridge MA, whose all-around excellent work has made them the official mechanic of the Tarbox Ramblers. We highly recommend giving them a a call if you're in the Boston area and need someone to work on your car.

8.09.05 RL HULSMAN'S LAST SHOW WITH THE RAMBLERS
Drummer RL Hulsman will be playing his last show - for a while, anyway - with The Ramblers, at The Lizard Lounge on August 13. So if you come to the show, shake the man's hand. We'll miss the relentless Hulsman rhythm attack, and his humor, which made countless hours spent driving in a van a humane and tolerable experience. We can't understand how he could possibly trade road life for anything else. Rob will continue playing occasional Boston-area shows with The Ramblers.... Please welcome our friend Adam Mujica, who'll join us on drums for a swing out west in September.

05.17.05  June Tour Dates, Summer Festivals
Look for the Ramblers in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, OH, St. Louis, TX, TN, NC, Philly, NYC, Boston and Northampton, MA. Please check the Tour Dates page for details.

05.12.05  Ramblers Live on XM
The Tarbox Ramblers recently recorded a set at XM's Washington, DC studios, performing live versions of both new and older songs for broadcast...

04.14.05  NOTES FROM THE WEST...
Greetings from beautiful Tucson, where we're digging the desert spring - cactus flowers!! - and resting a bit after a long drive from the east. It's hard to believe that just nine or ten days ago we were stranded in one place on the highway for NINE HOURS courtesy of a freak snowstorm in Pennsylvania... It would great to have a few days to linger here and soak in the heat... sadly though, we're steeling ourselves with coffee as we prepare for another day of driving, heading west to LA and then starting up the coast.

We want to thank our friend Tom Tomorrow for mentioning The Ramblers in his blog at http://www.thismodernworld.com/. A lot of folks who'd never heard us have e-mailed asking about the band based on Tom's comments... Are you familiar with Tom's amazing cartoons? You should be.... they provide a some hope in a dreary political landscape. Check them out!

Thanks to you, gentle fans, who have made the shows during this road trip such a blast...

11.01.04 - Cleveland Leadbelly Tribute With Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
The Ramblers were recently asked to participate in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame Tribute to Leadbelly.  What can we say? We're thrilled. Leadbelly is a huge Ramblers influence.

We'll play two shows, on November 6 and 7.  The first is at Beachland, where we'll join Dan Zanes and Jon Langford, of Mekons and Waco Brothers fame.  On November 7 the Ramblers will appear at Severance Hall to perform a Leadbelly song with Robert Plant and Allison Krauss.

09.14.04 - What's Ahead....  We're looking forward to two weekend shows at IOTAin Arlington VA, on Friday September 24th and Saturday, September 25th. We'll be on the road in November, with shows scheduled for Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Chicago, and more to come...

09.06.04  -  We're back from our trip out west - made it from home, Seattle to Boston, in 72 hours.  It's taken a few days to recover, but we're none the worse for the wear.  We saw some beautiful places along the way, from Colorado, Nevada and Utah up through the mountains of British Columbia and back through Montana. Lava fields, piney canyons, eerie dust, rivers in the stone.... many a landscape unseen here in the east. Special thanks to our Canadian friends, who made us feel so welcome. We did all of our August dates as a trio, and were pleased with the sounds.  Scott's been playing string bass about 3/4 of the time, a nd drums and percussion the rest, and has the blisters to prove it. With recovery from our driving behind us, we'll soon be leaving our respective couches to work on new songs and hit the road again....

09.01.04 - The Tarbox Ramblers would like to thank Don Yates, Stevie Zoom and everybody at KEXP in Seattle for putting together our in-studio performance a few weeks back...

08.15.04 - Thanks to Rick Kolow and all at AudioVideoweb.com for their excellent work hosting the Ramblers website!!

06.09.04 - Tarbox Ramblers Discussion Group/Chat Room
We just learned that a Tarbox Ramblers Discussion Group has been launched on Yahoo.

06.07.04 - Robert Quine RIP

Robert Quine has died.  A savage and eloquent guitarist who sounded like nobody else, his playing was always passionate and always idiosyncratic.  You can hear him on CDs by Richard Hell and The Voidoids, and by Lou Reed, among others.  His jagged, explosive style made him one of the musicians who made us want to play music in the first place, that made us think THAT'S how cool playing in a band could be.  Live, his low-key stage presence somehow made his playing seem all the wilder.  We'll miss him.

05.25.04 - KEXP
Seattle's KEXP is giving the new Ramblers CD considerable airplay. The station has a strong internet presence, an excellent playlist, and is responsive to listener requests. You can tune in at http://kexp.org

05.20.04 - Elvin Jones
It was with great sadness we learned of the passing of Elvin Jones. As you probably know, Elvin was the volcanic and irrepressible drummer in the great 1960's Coltrane quartet, and leader of his own group in the years thereafter. He was an unequalled master, and an inspiring spirit to countless musicians and fans for many years.  If you've seen The Ramblers live, you know that drums play a huge role in what we do; this is in no small part due to the inspiration we've taken from the profound musicality of this wonderful human being.

1.16.04   Upcoming Tour
The CD's about ready to go and it's almost time to travel....  our friend Rich Gilbert, well-known for his guitar work with Frank Black, will join us for late January and February road swings. We'll be experimenting with a two-guitar sound, which will open things up in new ways... Alan Kaufman will play violin with the band for the first four dates of the tour. No-one in this world sounds like him, and we're excited about having him on board.

1.06.04   Recording Sessions

12.23.03
The big news on the Ramblers horizon is the band's second CD, which will be released on the Rounder label on January 27th.  The CD is called A Fix Back East and features original songs, taut, doomy performances and the sonic wisdom of producers Jim Dickinson, Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie.  The Ramblers will be touring the east and the west to promote their new album.
